World Cancer Day 2021
The 4th of February is World Cancer Day. Created in 2000, it has grown into a positive movement for everyone to face one of our greatest challenges in history. Unfortunately, cancer is something that we are all familiar with. 10 million people die from cancer every year, making it the second-leading cause of death worldwide. It is a truly devasting disease, which is why it is so important to raise awareness and improve education on the matter.
This year’s World Cancer Day theme is ‘I Am and I Will’. The theme is all about you and your commitment to act, encapsulating the extraordinary spirit and strength of the people working in the cancer community.
The official World Cancer Day community are working together to re-imagine a world where millions of preventable cancer deaths are saved, and access to life-saving cancer treatment and care is equal for all – no matter who you are or where you live. They believe that through their positive actions, along with the general public, we can reach the target of reducing premature deaths from cancer by one third by 2030.
The team at Office Supplies Ireland wanted to play their part in raising awareness. So, we are sharing some symptoms in the hope of early detection or even better, prevention. With so many different types of cancers, symptoms are varied and depend on where the disease is located within the body. However, there are some key signs and symptoms to look out for:
- Unusual lumps or swelling
- Coughing, breathlessness or difficulty swallowing
- Changes in bowel habit
- Unexpected bleeding
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue
- Pain or ache
- New mole or changes to a mole
- Complications with urinating
- Unusual breast changes
- Appetite loss
- A sore or ulcer that won’t heal
- Heartburn or indigestion
- Heavy night sweats
Of course, these symptoms can be signs of other issues and not cancer, but please seek professional medical advice if you have any concerns.
