Climate Change

We have been seeing the effects of climate change more and more frequently recently. The best example of this was last week, which brought us a heat wave that were above average.

Alarm from the scientists
More than ten thousand scientists from around 150 countries had jointly declared a global "climate emergency", they have now emphasized this again and demanded immediate changes. These changes are more urgent than ever to protect life on earth, according to an article published on Wednesday in the specialist journal "BioScience". In addition to the originally around 11,000 scientists, including 871 researchers from German universities and institutes, more than 2,800 other signatories have been added. You keep mentioning that the issue is more pressing than ever and the consequences are devastating.

Consequences of climate change

Climate change affects all regions of the world. The ice in the polar caps is melting and sea levels are rising. In some regions, extreme weather events and increased precipitation occur more frequently, while in other regions extreme heat waves and droughts are more frequent. These effects are expected to intensify in the coming decades.

Consequences for Europe

• In southern and central Europe there are more frequent heat waves, forest fires and droughts.

• Drought is spreading across the Mediterranean, making the region even more vulnerable to droughts and forest fires.

• In Northern Europe, on the other hand, the climate is becoming significantly more humid and winter floods could become the norm.

• The urban areas, where four in five Europeans now live, suffer from heat waves, floods or sea level rise, but are often barely able to adapt to climate change.

What can we do about it?

Everyone can contribute to climate protection! True to the motto "avoid, reduce and compensate", we can take responsibility for our own ecological footprint, that is, for our CO2 emissions as well. The most important everyday causes of harmful emissions include traveling by car or plane, but also heating and electricity requirements as well as one's own consumer behavior.

It's everyone's business!

Climate change concerns everyone. Because everyone gives their part. Be it in a positive or negative way. The fact is that the climate is deteriorating more and more and living conditions are becoming more difficult. It is enough if everyone fulfills a bit of what we have mentioned above. This will not stop climate change completely, but it will slow it down and we will have more time to make ourselves more climate-friendly.

Next time, just pay attention to what you're buying, where you're buying it from, and how often you drive or fly in a plane. If more attention is paid to it, more attention will be paid to the earth.
