Surviving Lockdown 3.0 – Our Top Tips!
We’re currently in the third lockdown and many of those working from home are getting pretty fed up. Lockdown won’t last forever (although it might seem like it), but it’s what we have to deal with currently. So, we’ve put together some Top Tips to help you get through it.
Firstly, when you get up, change out of your pyjamas! Getting dressed into your everyday wear will help you feel ready for the day. Staying in pyjamas or loungewear will only keep you cosy and relaxed, instead of focused and engaged in your tasks.
Secondly, separate your work and home life. Identify a separate work area; this could be an entire room, or a particular seat at the dining table. Wherever it is, make sure to use that space for work and only for work. Conversely, avoid working from the sofa or your bed, as when it’s time to finally relax, your brain will struggle to ‘switch off’ from work mode!
A favourite tip of ours is to stick to a schedule. Have a set start time and finish time to differentiate work from your time. Make your schedule obvious in your workspace to keep you on top of it – a whiteboard or corkboard is great for this. A specific work diary or calendar can also be a big help with sticking to your schedule. You can even set timers throughout the day. Even better, stick to your existing work schedule so when you finally get back into the office, it is easier to adjust.
More importantly, allow yourself break times! It’s incredibly important to have breaks away from your seat and screen. Stretch your legs, get some air, grab a snack and a tea or coffee then get back to work. Finally, stay positive! Be grateful that you are healthy and able to work. It is easier to get through the day if you see the brighter side of things.
