Reduce your carbon footprint at the office

2 min

For the past few years, society's carbon footprint has continued to grow. This is a major issue for the world's climate, so it's important to find different ways to combat global warming. With regard to offices, all companies, employees and employers can do their part to reduce this problem.

Firstly, employees can take public transport or carpool to go at the office. In Ireland we are lucky that we have a lot of options for public transport. For instance in Dublin you have the Dart, buses and the Luas. All public transport options are cheaper than driving. If possible you can cycle as there are plenty of bike paths available. It’s very important to try do this to reduce our impact on the climate.

Secondly, you can change your behaviour at the office. You can use a laptop over a desktop because laptops are 80 % more energy efficient. You could also avoid long journeys for meetings. Instead, opt for video calls to reduce your carbon footprint as much as possible. For a few years now, plenty of companies reduce their printing and try to use digital file storage as much as possible.

Thirdly, we can save energy by switching off lights and electrical equipment when not in use, and make the switch to energy-saving light bulbs and appliances. You can also regulate the temperature inside to save energy. Lower the heating whenever possible and avoid using air conditioning when not necessary.

By adopting these practices, you can help reduce your office's carbon footprint and encourage others to do the same.
