National Cereal Day
Tommorow, March 7th, is National Cereal Day. This is an important topic as breakfast is known to be the most important meal of the day!
In this blog, we will discuss the timeline of cereal.
Cereal was invented by accident in 1877. John Harvey Kellogg and Will Keith Kellogg were experimenting with boiled wheat, as brothers do. They left a batch out overnight and returned to find it stale. They tried the same process with corn, and in turn created what we know today as Kellogg's Corn Flakes.
In 1939, sweetened cereal was born. 'Ranger Joe Popped Wheat Honnie' showed up in grocery stores, on radio and TV ads to show kids liked who liked sugar that cereal didn't have to be healthy.
In 1964, fancier cereal mixes such as 'Lucky Charms' debuted on store shelves, with fruit, marshmallows and other sweet bits mixed in.
