My month in Dublin as an English Language Intern

5 minutes

My name is Marvin, I‘m 19 years old and from Germany. I came with some friends over to Ireland to work and live here for one month. I was sponsored by my organisation in Germany through the Erasmus programme.

In my host company, Office Supplies Ireland,  I was responsible for the Social Media Accounts and creating blog entrys, so in this four weeks I learned a lot about marketing.

In my first week I wrote two Social Media posts, looked for photos and posted them. For me, this was very interesting because I have never done something like that before and I liked to be creative.          I also was shown how they pack deliveries and put them in the van in the morning and I got more information about the Marketing Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) in this company.

In my second week I got to write my first two blog entrys and another two social media posts. Also I got to know how to create my own graphics on Canva, which was really interesting to learn. Another nice thing I was taught this week was how you can post something on a website because I’ve never seen this before.

In my third week, I wrote another social media posts and a blog entry where I could be more creative and come up with my own ideas.

Now its my final week here and I’ve spend much of the week writing this blog entry but I think this improves my English again and it is a good end to close this chapter.

During my time I also visited very beautiful places in Dublin and through Ireland with my friends.

During my first week over here we visited  Trinity College, tried some different pubs and also went to a club called ‘Dicey’s‘, which is often visited by students.

The first weekend we made a bus tour to the famous Cliffs of Moher in the West of Ireland, in Clare. It was a really sunny day, so we had a really nice view and I could take beautiful photos.

When our stop at the Cliffs of Moher finished, we went on to Galway, where we had some nice fish and chips and went to a pub, until we drove back home again.

During the second week, I visited  St. Stephen’s Green Park and also Stephen’s Green Shopping Center, which has really beautiful architecture. On my way, I also crossed Temple Bar, which is well known to tourists. I didn’t drink a beer there because it was too expensive, but at least I could take some photos.

At the weekend we made a hop-on and hop-off bus tour and thereby we visited some museums,  St.Patricks Cathedral and Phoenix Park, a large public park in the middle of Dublin. It was really interesting because you could see the famous sights of Dublin and get the most important information on them.

In my third week in Dublin I visited Howth, a beautiful part of Dublin, with its own harbour and a cliff-walk, which is maybe not as beautiful as the Cliffs of Moher, but very nice nonetheless.

On Thursday I went to a football match involving Shamrock Rovers, a famous Irish football club, that plays near where I was staying in Ireland. Even if Rovers lost 0:2, it was a nice experience to see a football match in another country than Germany.

On the weekend we went to the Guinness Storehouse and made a tour in the Irish Whiskey Museum. I can recommend both places. At the Guinness Storehouse you  get to know more about the history of Guinness and you round off the tour with a pint of Guinness at the top oft he tower with a beautiful view over Dublin. The Whiskey Tour is similar. You hear a lot on the history of producing Whiskey in Ireland and at the end there is a Whiskey tasting.

In my last week in Dublin I’ve seen the very beautiful Botanic Gardens, which are really a worthwhile visit. We also visited Dublin Zoo. There are a lot of different animals and it’s one of the biggest Zoo’s in Ireland. Finally we went to the Kilmainham Gaol, a famous old jail, which is a museum now.

On Saturday now I‘m flying back to Germany, with a lot of new information and reminiscences out of the last four weeks.

Everything I can say now, even if I didn’t think it before I came here, is, that Dublin is a great place to visit and spend some time. Even if you only come over here for a week or two, there is so much you can discover.

At the end I also want to say thank you to the Office Supplies Ireland Team, who always supported me and were always friendly to me. I am really thankful that I got the chance to work one month abroad in Ireland. I learned so much and take a lot of new experiences back to Germay with me.
