Africa Day is celebrated on the 25th of May each year. This day is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity in 1963. Africa Day is celebrated in a lot of countries in Africa and Europe.
On this special day we celebrate the union of 32 African countries that signed the Charter of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which later evolved into the African Union (AU).
Africa Day is a key moment in the history of the continent. It’s a day that highlights Africa’s rich potential while also reminding us of the struggles they have faced and the other challenges they face.
We now have many African immigrants living in Ireland and they are making a significant contribution to our country.
The celebration on this day is Unity in Diversity. Africa is a huge continent with a lot of differences between people, languages, traditions, music, dance, money, lifestyles etc. All these things remind us that we are all different and that we don’t need to compare ourselves to others. All we need is love and this day is perfect to show love for everyone while dancing to good African music.
