St. Patricks Day

The month of March means two things in Ireland, firstly Spring is on its way and secondly St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner! Recently, due to the unpredictable circumstances of Covid, St. Patrick’s Day celebrations has been put on hold. Finally, this year we will see a return to the celebration of our national day!

Brief History of Saint Patrick

Saint Patrick lived during the 5th century and is the patron saint of Ireland. Born in Roman Britain, he was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave at the age of 16. He later managed to escape. But after seeing a vision telling him to spread the message of Christianity in Ireland, he returned back to Ireland around 432 and introduced Christianity to the Irish people. By the time of his death on the 17 March 461, he established churches and schools. But the most well-known legend of St. Patrick is the myth that he banished all of the island serpents into the sea and that he explained the Holy Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) using the three leaves of a native Irish clover, the shamrock.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade 2022

According to the St. Patrick’s Day Festival page, the parade is planned for the streets of Dublin on Thursday 17th March 2022! The parade will start at 12:00pm and take a route from Parnell Square to St. Stephen’s Green.

Whether you decide to take part in the parade or not, enjoy some traditional Irish food and drinks while spending quality time with friends and family. St. Patrick’s Day is also a great way to start the beginning of Spring! Happy St. Patrick’s Day Everyone!
